Our Story
Why we're called Overkill
How it started
Overkill Construction was born when our lead carpenter was working as a handyman for group homes. Group homes are a housing option for individuals with disabilities, and when things broke it was often more than normal wear and tear — it was the result of unique needs that ordinary fixes couldn't keep up with.
The repairs called for real engineering. Curtain rods built out of steel pipe with custom-welded brackets that could hold hundreds of pounds. Bathroom walls lined with solid vinyl sheets. Bed frames built out of framed lumber. Every solution was "overkill" — overbuilt for its everyday use, and built to last and outlast the residents of those homes.
That idea stuck: things shouldn't just be built to fit a look, they should be built to last. Fourteen years later, we're still building above code and using only the best locally sourced materials.
Who we hire
We hire for creativity, integrity, and innovation. We partner with local high schools to find enterprising young adults with a love of building, and we're proud advocates for the disability community.
We find strength and positivity in areas society has traditionally seen as "disability." Preciseness, attention to detail, and a deep sense of justice are exactly the qualities that make a carpenter who builds things that last for generations.
What we stand on
Overbuilt
If it can be built stronger, we build it stronger. Every time.
Above Code
Code is the floor, not the goal. We build past it as a matter of habit.
Locally Sourced
We use the best local materials we can put our hands on.
Advocacy
We build careers in the trades for the disability community.
